To mark the final week of her current solo exhibition, Alternative to Power, at The New Art Gallery Walsall, sculptor Eva Rothschild has invited choreographer Joe Moran to present Singular, a durational dance work that will be performed by dancers Katye Coe and Hilary Stainsby within her exhibition.


 

The performance will feature costumes by Rothschild and artist Ilsa Colsell. Moran’s choreographic work shares many concerns with Rothschild’s approach to sculpture, which will provide a focus for a free public talk as part of the day.

 

Rothschild and Moran’s first collaborative experiment, A Setup took place in 2015 for the inaugural Block Universe festival and fig-2 programme at the Institute of Contemporary Art, London.

 

Eva Rothschild is one of the leading sculptors of her generation and has gained extensive international recognition for her work. She has had solo shows at the Nasher Sculpture Centre, Dallas, Tate Britain and The Hepworth, UK.The artist was elected to the Royal Academy in 2015.

 

Joe Moran is a choreographer with an extensive practice incorporating touring theatre and gallery works, lecture-performance and curatorial projects. He is Artistic Director of Dance Art Foundation and an Associate Artist with Dance4.

 

Katye Coe is an Independent Dance Artist and Senior Lecturer in Dance at Coventry University.

 

Hilary Stainsby is a Dance Artist and Postgraduate Lecturer in Contemporary Technique at London Contemporary Dance School.

 

Alternative to Power presents new and recent sculptures by internationally acclaimed Irish sculptor, Eva Rothschild, and includes a specially commissioned leather work and large-scale dyed fabric banner, produced by the artist especially for the Gallery’s street-facing Window Box.

 

Exhibition continues until 15 January 2017.
