This major international exhibition brought together a diverse group of artists whose work is concerned with the modern urban environment.  Works were acquired through Art Fund International, the Art Fund’s £5 million scheme which helped UK museums and galleries to build outstanding collections of international contemporary art.  The New Art Gallery Walsall, Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery and Ikon Gallery formed one of the five consortiums which took part in the initiative.  This exhibition represented an interim stage in the collecting process, with the scheme coming to an end in 2012.

The works that form this collection will be a valuable resource for the West Midlands and beyond for generations to come.

Collected works by Christiane Baumgartner and Miao Xiaochun were also shown at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery in the exhibition New Art Now, between 13 November 2010 – 13 February 2011.
