Works from Tate into The Garman Ryan Collection

As part of a three year partnership with Tate, the 2016 Interventions into The Garman Ryan Collection are drawn from Tate’s renowned collection.  16 Tate artworks have been paired with related works in The Garman Ryan Collection, linked either by artist, subject or theme. Included are key examples by Raoul Dufy, Eric Gill, Augustus John, Cedric Morris, John Nash and Picasso.

The Garman Ryan Collection was formed by Sir Jacob Epstein’s widow and gifted to Walsall in 1973. Amongst the 365 artworks are many by Epstein and his circle, including Gaudier-Brzeska, Freud, Modigliani and Matthew Smith; as well as by leading 19th century European masters Constable, Degas, Pissarro and Rodin. It includes many parallels with works from Tate’s extensive collections of British and European art and we are privileged to have the opportunity to display some fantastic examples in this exhibition, highlighting standout works from both collections.
