The New Art gallery Walsall


The New Art Gallery Walsall is situated within the centre of Walsall town. At the top of Park Street the Gallery is on the main high street through the town, and is in easy walking distance of the train and bus station. The Gallery is situated adjacent to the Town Wharf retail park, which includes local parking and other amenities such as shops, restaurants, hotel and a cinema.


Admission to the Gallery is free, with access to the exhibitions, collections, and an education programe for children, families and adults.


Getting Here:

By Car from the North:

M6 Junction 10 follow A454 (Wolverhampton Road) towards the town centre.

M6 Toll Junction T7 follow the A34 through Bloxwich to Walsall town centre.

From Lichfield follow the A461 towards Walsall and pick up the brown tourist signs.


By Car from the South:

M6 Junction 7 follow A34, turn right at the first roundabout and pick up brown tourist signs.

M6 Junction 9 follow A4148 Ring Road toward Walsall. Stay on the Ring Road as it merges with Wolverhampton Road and follow local signs.


Local Car Parks

Local parking is available at the Town Wharf retail park, Frederick Street car park, Station Street and the Saddlers Centre.

Public Transport

The Gallery is 2 minutes walk from Walsall Train Station via Park Street and Gallery Square. Trains to and from Birmingham New Street, approximately every 25 minutes. National train links from New Street.


The Gallery is a few minutes walk from St Paul’s Bus Station, via Park Street and Gallery Square. Local services run frequently, check local timetables for details.



The Gallery is located on The Town Arm, part of Walsall Town Wharf in the heart of Walsall. The canal area has been totally renovated, and now has mooring facilities for boaters and is great for nature lovers and walkers alike.


By Bike

The Gallery is in close proximity to National Cycle Network 5 and has good links with both Walsall Canal and the Wyrley and Essington Canal routes. There are cycle stands free to use at the front of the Gallery.

What to see and do during your visit:

Spend the day discovering all that the Gallery has to offer, from the very best in International art on Floors 3 and 4, to the renowned Garman Ryan Collection of Floors 1 and 2. The Ground Floor Family Gallery offers a fun way to explore art for all ages, and keep an eye out for regular workshops, talks and events. Take advantage

of our Art reference library and resource area, browse the newly refurbished Gallery shop, take in the view from our Roof Terrace or relax in Costa Café on the Ground Floor.



Our friendly Front of House team is always available to ensure you get the most from your visit; just ask at the reception if you need any assistance or talk to a member of staff in the Gallery spaces if you would like a chat about the art on display.


The Gallery aims to help visitors get the most from our facilities, and to support visitors with access needs, and their carers’ when planning a visit. The New Art Gallery aims to provide a fully accessible, welcoming and friendly environment, where everyone can appreciate the exhibitions, collections, and facilities, and

participate in workshops, talks and events.

The building is accessible from street level, with fully accessible automatic doors, and lift access to all floors.

The Gallery has two wheelchairs available to use for visitors. Please ask at reception, call 01922 654400 or email us to pre-book them.


Guide Dogs are welcome in all areas of the Gallery, water is available on request.


Large format handouts of exhibition guides are available on request.

There are three accessible toilets throughout the Gallery, located on the Ground Floor, Floor 1 and Floor 4.

A baby change facility is available in the accessible toilet located on the Ground Floor.

Located in the heart of the town the Gallery is close to a range of attractions, so you can enjoy a full day out. Retail outlets, such as the Town Wharf Retail Park, Saddler’s Centre and the main High Street offer plenty of choice for shopping.


Discover the history of Walsall as the British leather goods capital at the nearby Leather Museum, housed in a restored leather factory. Two minutes from the Gallery, The Light cinema offers a range of mainstream movies, screenings of Opera and Theatre, art-house films and Bollywood.


There are a range of restaurants, bars and café’s close by too, such as Bella Italia, Pizza Express, Nandos, Frankie and Benny’s, Starbucks, The Wharf Inn, and The Black Country Arms. Or make a trip of it and stay over-night, right next door to the Gallery at the Walsall Premier Inn Hotel.
