Microsite launched to accompany Karen McLean’s forthcoming exhibition available to view HERE
Birmingham-based artist Karen McLean grew up in Trinidad. Her artistic practice continues to be informed by the history, culture and folklore of the Caribbean and its inter-connections with the UK. Her brand new installation features a huge wall hanging which acknowledges and celebrates the strength and resilience of enslaved women within the boundaries of captivity.

Twenty Years of Collecting Contemporary Art
Until 14 June 2020
The New Art Gallery celebrates its 20th birthday this year. To mark this occasion, we are bringing together works of contemporary art collected over the last 20 years, many from artists who have featured in our exhibitions programme. Works span a wide range of media and scale. We have selected international artists as well as those closer to home and from across the country.
The New Art Gallery Walsall is currently closed to the public, until further notice, from 2pm, Thursday 19th March 2020, amid the developing situation with COVID-19. Please see our News page for the full statement.
Filmed on the occasion of the Gallery’s 20th Birthday, five artists who are represented in our permanent collection speak about their association with the Gallery and what it means to have their work collected by a public institution. See the 20:20 exhibition page for the full interviews with Andrew Tift, Mahtab Hussain, Michele Harris, Sarah Taylor Silverwood and Nilupa Yasmin.
