Call for artist educators

The New Art Gallery Walsall would like to recruit two creative practitioners to join our existing group of talented artist educators who facilitate workshops for our family audiences, schools and the wider community.

We are looking to diversify our group’s demographic, to better represent our audiences and the communities living in Walsall; making our workshops even more relevant, rich and vibrant. We would like to hear from artists under-represented in our current group; artists of different heritages, communities and ages (particularly ages 18-30) or who identify as having a disability, long term condition, LGBTQIA+ or belonging to any other protected characteristic group and are passionate about having their voice heard.

If you are a freelance creative practitioner with experience working with groups of children and/or adults, we would love to hear from you! For more information and to apply, email Alex Jolly, Learning and Engagement Coordinator: alex.jolly@walsall.gov.uk

On application, please tell us why you would like to be considered for this opportunity, and attach your CV.

Deadline for applications: Monday 31 May 2021.

Three West Midlands based artists selected for The Stay at Home Residency series during lockdown

The New Art Gallery Walsall has adapted its Studio residency programme in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic to support three artists to produce work from their homes between May and July this year. Following an open-call to artists based in the West Midlands, the Gallery received 60 varied proposals from a diverse range of artists working across the region. The many challenges that artists are facing during lockdown were well articulated. In selecting, we were keen to see opportunities for artistic and professional development during these challenging times, to support creative approaches to practice amid imposed restrictions and to explore the benefits and possibilities of sharing with an online audience.

We are delighted to announce that the selected artists are Farwa Moledina, Faye Claridge and Antonio Roberts and we look forward to working with each of them over the coming months.

For more information see the artist’s individual pages on our website, listed on the What’s On page.

The New Art Gallery Walsall temporary closure

2pm, Thursday 19 March 2020

To all our supporters, friends and visitors,

For over 20 years The New Art Gallery Walsall has been bringing people, art and artists together. However, in light of the developing situation with COVID-19, the welfare of our visitors and staff must come first. That is why Walsall Council have taken the decision to close the Gallery to the public, until further notice, from 2pm, Thursday 19th March.

All scheduled events for the coming months have been cancelled; we will review which of these can be rescheduled for a later date. If you have paid for a ticket for one of our events you will be refunded.

Please continue to visit us online at our website and on social media for any updates and for access to the Gallery, its exhibitions and collections.

Thank you for your support – we don’t know yet when we will reopen, but we look forward to welcoming you back when we do.

Until then, stay safe and take care of yourselves and loved ones.
