Adult Workshops – Painting for Adults

Week 3

Saturday 21st March

Portraiture

This session explores the nature of portraiture and how to capture the essence of a real person.   Looking at different styles of painting, particularly photorealism and expressionism we will be encouraging you to experiment with these different techniques in oils or acrylic.  There will be a life model to work from, oils or acrylics and a small canvas for you.  The works we will particularly look at are Lucien Freud, Portrait of Kitty and Andrew Tift, Kitty (Transition).

Each session runs from 10.30am to 1.30pm and is £15 or you can book all four sessions for £50 limited places.  To book please phone the gallery reception on 01922 654400, or pop in and see us.

Week 4

Saturday 28th March

Abstract

For this workshop we will explore the differences that make up an abstract work and their purpose.  They’ll be discussion about colour theory and application of paint.  You’ll need to choose your own object or photo to bring in or work with a concept and abstract essences to create your piece of abstract painting.

The works we will particularly look at are William Gear, Landscape Study and Michael Wishart, Moths on Blue Path.

Discussion of works, in all sessions, will last approximately 30mins, with the practical workshops and questions, feedback and discussion for the remainder.   Some materials will be provided, but please bring your own if you have them.  All the works we will be looking at in detail are on display in the gallery and you can come and see them or look them up on our website and look under Search the Collection.
