Interrogation: Walsall is a series of events that bring artists and the public together to explore the role of arts and culture in the Post-Industrial world.

The events, organised by Longhouse and The New Art Gallery Walsall, working with lead artist Anna Francis, are designed to investigate the impact that one artist can have in one place in one day and will create opportunities for artists to activate the public spaces around The New Art Gallery Walsall.

This investigation will be done through four missions, each lasting a day. Using the Artists’ Studio within The New Art Gallery Walsall as a base, the artists will be secret agents in the Town. Look out for them on these dates; they may need your help to complete their mission.

Interrogation: Action Research Wednesday 9 September, 2009

Interrogation: Consultation Wednesday 16 September, 2009

Interrogation: Collaboration Wednesday 23 September, 2009

Interrogation: Intervention Wednesday 30 September, 2009

The citizens of Walsall are invited to see the results of the missions and get involved in the debate by visiting the Artists’ Studio and by taking part in a Symposium on:

Date: Friday, 2nd October 2009.

Time: 1.00 – 5.00pm

Venue: Activity Space, The New Art Gallery Walsall Gallery Square, Walsall, WS2 8LG

The Symposium will further explore the debate, and disseminate the artists’ findings. Invited experts and practitioners in the field of public realm working will present their own work, and take part in a panel discussion, which aims to discuss the Artist’s Role in the Post-Industrial World.
