Silver Thread Tapestry Project

Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council

Creative Development Team

Celebrating 25 years of bringing community arts to the borough, The Walsall Silver Thread Tapestries project has produced 11 tapestries illustrated by artist Hunt Emerson and hand stitched by an army of needlework volunteers from the local community. They have stitched over 12 square metres over the last 8 months.

Representing the Borough of Walsall, each tapestry features Walsall’s living history and diverse geographical communities.    ‘Silver Thread’ highlights Walsall’s prominent people, places and events.

The Tapestries will be on display at the Gallery until Sunday 29 January. Following their display at The New Art Gallery the tapestries will be toured throughout the Borough. Tour dates will be available on Facebook page: Walsall Silver Thread Tapestries Project, also after the launch event on Friday 20 January or look out for leaflets and posters at libraries.

The launch event will also be a farewell to Walsall Council’s Creative Development Team and a launch of Walsall Creative Factory an independent community interest company who will provide Community Arts development in the region.
