Siân Macfarlane, We Are Illuminated
West Midlands-based artist Siân Macfarlane works with photography, film and performance, with a particular interest in outmoded technology.
Gathering images and information from archival sources, Siân is concerned with how we interact with time and place, and the relationship between the visual and other senses.
Fairs, carnivals and cinemas in the Walsall area, from the 1800s to the present day, form the focus of Siân’s research for her residency. Assisted by students from Walsall College and in consultation with local residents, Siân will collate a body of research to explore further in the studio.
A changing display of the artist’s research material is on display in the mezzanine case, until the end of the residency.
