Girl

The intriguing exhibition included works from a wide range of media by comtemporary artists exploring aesthetic and social worlds of girls aged between about three and nine years old. Each of the artists looks back to an age when girls have an autonomy and freedom that is rapidly lost as the demands of adult sexuality set in. From large scale abstract paintings through to miniature fairy costumes, the exhibition will allude to stories and rhymes, rivalries and more. Participating artists included Kate Belton, Claire Carter, Clare Charnley, Meera Chauda, Denise du Cordova, Ann Course, Mikey Cuddihy, Nickey Hoberman, Chantal Joffe, Jo Lansley and Helen Bredon,Elizabeth LeMoine, Michelle Naismith, Tasmin Pender, Vanessa Jane Phaff, Susan Phillipsz, Meloni Poole, Kerry Stewart and Jannet Thomas.
