Lucian Freud and Kitty Garman

The highly charged atmosphere of these meticulously posed paintings and prints from the Tate collection reveal an intense relationship between Lucian Freud and his wife Kitty Garman, the daughter of sculptor Jacob Epstein.

These early portraits of Kitty from 1947 to 1951 are shown next to his self portrait of that period and are a document of a relationship as well as being meticulously executed realist works.
