Back to Front: 40 Permanent Collection Gems

To celebrate the Ruby Anniversary of the Garman Ryan Collection

These interventions have been personally selected by our Front of House Team to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Garman Ryan Collection. The forty works have been chosen from our Permanent Collection and are displayed as a trail of ‘rubies’ throughout the themed rooms of the Garman Ryan galleries, complementing the works from the Garman Ryan Collection on display.

The variety of artworks selected reflects the tastes and personalities of our Front of House team, as well as the diversity of our Permanent Collection. Works in the exhibition include photographs by Richard Billingham, Brian Griffin and Andrew Jackson; prints by Peter Blake, RB Kitaj and Jock McFadyen; and paintings by Andrew Gifford, Ian McLean and Shanti Panchal.

An Artwork of the Month series has accompanied this exhibition. Short films relating to each artwork appear on the gallery’s YouTube channel, or can be viewed below. There has been an accompanying talk by its selector at the Gallery.
