Jochem Hendricks
Jochem Hendricks’ works are playful, challenging and provocative. They are often highly engaging on an aesthetic level, yet beneath the surface lie elaborate back-stories which frequently test the boundaries of ethics and morality.
Artists have traditionally been masters of artifice and illusion and exactly how Hendricks engages with this tradition is open to interpretation. Like many conceptual artists, he encourages us to challenge the ways in which we view the world.
Hendricks works in a wide variety of media, including sculpture, film, installation and more recently, painting. This exhibition offers an opportunity to view his artistic development from the late 1980s until the present day.
This project is organised in collaboration with John Hansard Gallery, Southampton and Museum Haus Konstruktiv, Zurich, Switzerland. A fully illustrated catalogue, published by Distanz Verlag, is available from the gallery shop at a special exhibition price of £25.
