Comfy Club Collective x The Joy Project closing event

Saturday 5 July, 2-4pm. Free. Intended for young people around the ages of 16-25. Please book to guarantee your place at the workshop.

Join us for the closing weekend of The Joy Project, featuring a drawing and painting workshop, using your memories as the subject! This is inspired by The Joy Project’s update of The People’s Show, photographs depicting young people with their collections, including Comfy Club member Sarah, and her Sandy Liang clothing collection!

Think about a childhood toy, an item of clothing, your favourite game; those special, joyful things that you just can’t forget. They’ve brought you joy, fond memories and have become a part of your being, they’re hard to live without. Let’s honour them by immortalising them through paint! Paint and draw your object, share with others and enjoy the exhibition!

The Joy Project is an exhibition developed by local young people, for local young people. Come along and meet members of the Collections Youth Panel who will give you a guided tour of the exhibition, as well as enjoy music from Blue Lights Choir.

Comfy Club are a South West based arts collective who explore themes of nostalgia, childhood and friendship through the lens of the contemporary experience. Their work evokes anecdotes, memories and feelings that bring joy and comfort. The celebration of everyday moments is explored through their ‘comfy’ materials and aesthetics. ‘Comfy’ because it’s familiar, relatable and gives you that feeling of warmth that you might feel nestled under the duvet in your bedroom. A love of making, pop culture and each other are a crucial part of their collective’s thinking. Comfy Club long for the simplicity of girlhood, the discoveries of teenage-hood and choose to navigate the world through the eyes of their younger selves.
