Artist Teacher Scheme Exhibition

Artist Teachers exhibition goes on display

Saturday 25 July – Sunday 30 August 2015

Art teachers in the region are showing their own art skills in a display at The New Art Gallery Walsall.  The exhibition shows work in progress from The Artist Teacher Scheme course.

All the artists studied contemporary art at The New Art Gallery Walsall, Ikon and Birmingham City University alongside established artists over the last 12 months to inform the development of their own work as artists. Whilst working in education throughout mainly the West Midlands the group have come together to explore exhibitions such as FOUND and Martin Parr and  meet other artist working in the region to question contemporary art and continue to further develop their own work. Work on display includes an embroidered dress with imagery about motherhood, short films about dystopia and drawings that are ‘anti-selfies’.  The exhibition will feature work by artists Lulu Badr, Ros Corser, Sam Dennis, Debbie Jones, Thea Kelly, Nicola Price, Laura Reid, Elizabeth Shepherd, Tina Sylvester, Rachael Wayne.

The Artist Teacher Scheme is a continuing professional development course run in partnership between The New Art Gallery Walsall, Ikon gallery and Birmingham City University. It offers artist teachers opportunities to re-engage with their own personal development as artists by extending their awareness of contemporary fine art practice. This programme is run annually and has two stages.
